Gold & Silver Morning Update 12/24/2025 | The Bregar Minute

Daily Update | Erik Bregar | 24 Dec, 2025

Indeed an upside breakout attempt for gold above yesterday’s highs in early Asian trade last night, but this technical achievement was ruined by an obnoxious 4k contract, -1%, bashing off session highs in the final five minutes of the 9pmET hour.  There wasn’t a headline catalyst or abrupt negative shift in the broader risk mood.  Platinum and palladium were then hit at the European open, again for no reason.  Finally, we saw another 8:00:00amET start-of-hour algo hit all the metals at the same time.  It’s quite clear that someone is trying to slam the metals on an less liquid holiday shortened session, but thankfully this morning’s mixed jobless claims data (initial claims lower-than-expected, but continuing claims much higher-than-expected) is now bringing back a dovish bond / stock market bid that is helping the precious metals defend their COMEX opening ranges as support.  Stock and bond futures will close early today at 1:15pmET for the Christmas holiday, and the metal futures will close shortly thereafter at 1:45pmET.
