Gold & Silver Morning Update 12/12/2025 | The Bregar Minute

Daily Update | Erik Bregar | 12 Dec, 2025

A very strong overnight session for the precious metals, thanks in large part to a surprisingly lower-than-expected USDCNY fix from the PBOC.  Effectively, after numerous days of trying to curtain yuan strength, it looks like Chinese monetary authorities have given up for now.  This put an immediate floor underneath all the metals during the 8pmET hour, especially copper; the precious metals space then really took off when the PGMs broke to new session highs during the midnight ET hour.  This morning’s utterly obnoxious onslaught of hawkish Fed-speak from Goolsbee, Paulson, Schmid, and Hammack (all within the 8amET hour) has unfortunately fooled the bond market into yet another selloff, but gold and silver are hanging in there as platinum and palladium explode to new December highs.  The stock and FX markets look a little torn here as to whether or not to believe this latest round of manipulative Fed-speak.  Little hard to say here how we’ll finish the week for gold & silver given today’s new correlative drivers, but as usual I’d use today’s COMEX opening ranges as pivots.
